The Subaru Impreza was introduced in 1992, powered by a boxer engine, and with the option of four-wheel drive on certain models; it was also available as an estate. 1994 saw two-door and STi versions join the line-up, although two years later, a new generation was launched. By this time, Subaru was already making an impact on the WRC scene, with the Impreza being the chosen weapon for the company's assault on the series.
