What is the Subaru AWD?

Horizontally opposed engine + Symmetry AWD

The main feature of Subaru All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is the layout. All the main components, from the longitudinal Horizontally-Opposed Engine to the transmission, transfer case, propeller shaft and rear differential, are arranged in a line, with a laterally symmetrical layout. Show on the lower.

This provides the neutral balance that is essential for superior weight transfer both laterally and longitudinally, that gives enhanced driving pleasure and vehicle handling.

Notice that all the heavy components such as the transmission, transfer case, etc., are arranged within the wheelbase of the vehicle. This cuts out superfluous overhang of these components front and rear, reduces the moment of inertia involved in steering and spectacularly improves the driving performance of the vehicle itself.
